Saltire First Book Award shortlist and freelance editing

It’s been a golden, packed few weeks: panels and workshops (and whisky) at the Terror Australis Readers and Writers Festival in Cygnet, Tasmania; teaching a gorgeous group of writers in my Faber Academy class on ‘how to edit your own writing’; finishing my full time job in publishing (bittersweet!); and being shortlisted in Scotland’s prestigious national book awards, the Saltire Society Literary Awards.

I really do just want to fill the page with exclamation marks. To be shortlisted in Australia (eh hem, the Readings Prize, Aurealis Awards, the MUD Literary Prize, and the ABIAs…) is heartening, but as A Superior Spectre is set in Scotland, this shortlisting is very special. I’m grateful to my publisher, Saraband, for entering Spectre into the prize.

Just a wee reminder that my new book, Joan Smokes, is also published by Saraband soon (December) and you can pre-order it now.

Over the next couple of months I’ll be attempting to finish the draft of my new novel.  (Yeah, not scared at all…) I’ll also start listing my services around the place as a freelance editor, specialising in structural and story editing and advice. Would you believe I already have a scattering of jobs booked up until April? If these services might interest you sometime in the future, subscribe to my forthcoming free monthly newsletter on writing and publishing here.

    • It was so lovely hanging out with you, too! I’m glad I was able to give you some whisky tips 😉 Someone needs to run a gin and literature session too… x
