Melbourne-based writer, commissioning editor, professional reader, whisky-drinker.
At the end of 2014 I joined the team at Echo (an imprint of Bonnier Publishing Australia) as a commissioning editor. I am behind the multi-award-winning Resurrection Bay by Emma Viskic, Skin Deep and Bad Blood by Gary Kemble, L.J.M. Owen’s Dr Pimms series, Ida by Alison Evans, The Hot Guy by Mel Campbell and Anthony Morris, and The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris, among many others. In 2017 I was named Employee of the Year for the Bonnier Publishing group (UK/US/AU).
My debut novel, A Superior Spectre, is due out in 2018 with Peter Bishop Books (Ventura). I previously released a book of flash fiction, Captives (Inkerman & Blunt), and am the editor of an anthology of spooky Australian stories, The Great Unknown (Spineless Wonders). Find out more on the ‘books’ page.
You can read regular pieces of ‘tiny literature’ by me over at my Patreon, and on certain tiers have access to audio and video content (and I appreciate your support!).
From July to December 2015 I was the Literary Columnist for Killings. Previously, I reviewed for newspapers like the Australian, the Sydney Morning Herald and The Big Issue, and for journals and websites around the world. I blogged for three years on literature for Crikey. LiteraryMinded has been running since May 2007.
In 2014 I graduated from a Doctor of Creative Arts within the Writing and Society Research Centre at the University of Western Sydney.
I’ve published short stories, flash fiction, articles, essays, reviews, interviews and the odd poem in a wide variety of publications. See my short stories, nonfiction and poetry pages for a list and some links.
I have chaired panels, been on panels, or performed at Perth Writers Festival, Sydney Writers’ Festival, Adelaide Writers’ Week, Adelaide’s Format Festival, Williamstown Literary Festival, the Emerging Writers’ Festival, the Australian Booksellers Association Conference, Byron Bay Writers Festival, Write Around the Murray, Bellingen Readers and Writers Festival, Melbourne Writers Festival (for which I have also been an official blogger), Genrecon, the Newstead Short Story Tattoo, Melbourne’s Overload Poetry Festival, the Ubud Writers’ and Readers’ Festival in Bali, the National Young Writers’ Festival in Newcastle, and the Edinburgh International Book Festival.
