My debut novel, A Superior Spectre, was published by Peter Bishop Books (Ventura) in Australia and Saraband in the UK. It has been shortlisted for five literary awards.
My second novel, Moon Sugar, was released by Transit Lounge in October 2022. It received some excellent reviews.
In 2019 I won the inaugural Mslexia (UK) Novella Competition for Joan Smokes and it is now available in print, ebook and audio.
I previously released a book of flash fiction, Captives (Inkerman & Blunt), and edited an anthology of spooky Australian stories, The Great Unknown (Spineless Wonders).

I’ve published short stories, flash fiction, articles, essays, reviews, interviews and the odd poem in a wide variety of publications. See my short stories, nonfiction and poetry pages for a list and some links.
In 2022 I joined RMIT University as a lecturer in their well-regarded Master of Writing and Publishing. In 2023 my team was awarded a Vice-Chancellor’s Teaching Award.
Before that I worked as a freelance editor, and story and content specialist, through my business Meyer Literary. I edited books for a range of publishers, and worked with organisations and businesses including councils, universities and not-for-profits on their content. I also mentored other writers, and provided manuscript assessments, as time allowed.
My role prior to that was at Echo Publishing/Bonnier Books UK as a commissioning editor and then publisher. I am behind many award-winning, bestselling and internationally published Australian books.
In 2015 I was the Literary Columnist for Killings. Previously, I reviewed for newspapers like the Australian, the Sydney Morning Herald and The Big Issue, and for journals and websites around the world. I blogged for three years on literature for Crikey, and was an editor of Books+Publishing, Australia’s book trade magazine. I started my career in books as a bookseller at Dymocks.
In 2014 I graduated from a Doctor of Creative Arts within the Writing and Society Research Centre at the University of Western Sydney.
I have chaired panels, been on panels, or performed at festivals and conferences around Australia and overseas including Perth Writers Festival, Sydney Writers’ Festival, Adelaide Writers’ Week, the Australian Booksellers Association Conference, Byron Bay Writers Festival, Melbourne Writers Festival, Genrecon, the Ubud Writers’ and Readers’ Festival in Bali, and the Edinburgh International Book Festival.
I am now also Chair of the Board for the Terror Australis Readers and Writers Festival.
I grew up in Coffs Harbour, NSW, and was the first person in my immediate family to go to university. Outside of these bookish roles I’ve supported myself working in retail and hospitality. I’m very proud of the life I’ve built doing what I love. I live in Melbourne with my fiancé, daughter and adopted greyhound. My interests outside books include yoga and single malt whisky.

Impressive resume Angela! I really enjoy reading your reviews and discoveries of Australian literature. I’ve landed in Melbourne a few months ago and it really helps to follow someone who knows her subject that well! I’m fond of literature in general but since I live in this wonderful country, I’ve decided to promote Australian literature to French people (http://lekoalalit.wordpress.com). Hi Angélique! Wow, I’m so glad a blog like yours exists. Unfortunately at this stage I can only read it through a Google translator. I’ve been to France twice and I’d love to properly learn French one day and be able to read Camus in the original language. I’d love to learn German someday too.
