Writer, editor, professional reader, Melburnian, whisky-drinker, Bowie nut, movie-lover, vintage fan, absurdist, aesthete.
I’m the author of a book of flash fiction, Captives (Inkerman & Blunt), and the editor of an anthology of spooky Australian stories, The Great Unknown (Spineless Wonders). Find out more on the ‘books’ page.
At the end of 2014 I joined the team at Echo Publishing (a new company publishing adult fiction and nonfiction with sales and distribution through The Five Mile Press) as a commissioning editor. And from July to December 2015 I was the Literary Columnist for Killings. Previously, I reviewed for newspapers like the Australian, the Sydney Morning Herald and The Big Issue, and for journals and websites around the world. I blogged for three years on literature for Crikey. LiteraryMinded has been running since May 2007.
In 2014 I graduated from a Doctor of Creative Arts within the Writing and Society Research Centre at the University of Western Sydney. The manuscript I wrote as part of my thesis was longlisted for the Mslexia Women’s Novel Competition (UK) in late 2011. I was also Highly Commended in the Qantas Spirit of Youth Awards (Written Word category) in both 2012 and 2013.
I’ve published short stories, flash fiction, articles, essays, reviews, interviews and the odd poem in a wide variety of publications. See my short stories and nonfiction pages for a list and some links.
I have chaired panels, been on panels, or performed at Perth Writers Festival, Sydney Writers’ Festival, Adelaide Writers’ Week, Adelaide’s Format Festival, Williamstown Literary Festival, the Emerging Writers’ Festival, the Australian Booksellers Association Conference, Byron Bay Writers Festival, Write Around the Murray, Bellingen Readers and Writers Festival, Melbourne Writers Festival (for which I have also been an official blogger), the Newstead Short Story Tattoo, Melbourne’s Overload Poetry Festival, the Ubud Writers’ and Readers’ Festival in Bali, the National Young Writers’ Festival in Newcastle, and the Edinburgh International Book Festival.
I’ve been interviewed in/by ACT Writers Centre, Jen Squire, The Clothesline, the West Australian, Tincture Journal, Book Industry Collaborative Council, Age’s Melbourne Magazine, Epicure, Voiceworks, Women’s Health, Sketch, Victorian Writer, the Sydney Writers Centre, Verity La, The Signal Express, Embedded Literati, ArtShine and other publications in print and online.
